I don't think buying apples to can is cheating. It isn't possible to grow everything under the sun no matter how hard we try.

I bet your little helper will have a great time with you in the garden this year. When I had a little helper that age, her favorite things in the garden were sand, water, (mixing them together, of course) strawberries (picking them and eating them) and cottontail rabbits. (she always wanted to leave the garden gate open so the bunnies could come in and eat).

What a cutie! And way to go starting him on good garden food young. My daughter adopted a little girl at age six who had already made her mind up that she "hated" tomatoes. Her older sisters told her she'd never eaten a "real" tomato. (They started eating them young too.) I raised Sungold tomato plants and daughter planted a couple in her garden. She looked out the window and saw the child sneaking tomatoes, looking around to make sure no one saw, because after all, she has her pride and didn't want to admit she was wrong.

I just barely kept my head up during harvest time and gave most of it away. When I finally came around the garden was done for the most part. I did get a trunk load of peas from a friend and purchased the apples from a co-op. I should have enough apple sauce to last two years.

That is so funny about the little girl sneaking tomatoes. Kids and gardens are just the best to put a smile on your face.
so excited about the new year and new garden I can hardly wait to get started.
