Peas to pumpkins--bad idea?

In October we prepared a very large garden spot, a medium garden spot (specifically for pumpkins this year) and three raised beds.

Pumpkins can be started in June. Peas do not like hot summer temps. Would it be an okay idea to plant peas in the pumpkin spot in the early spring, and then when it's too hot for them, plant the pumpkin seeds?

(We threw our Jack o lanterns in that garden spot, so we may have some pumpkins come up on their own. For some reason the birds didn't touch them.)

The peas I purchased are Green Arrow (so yummy but not much to eat) and Oregon Sugar Pods.

Any thoughts?
