The onions are nestled

Posted by seedmama 7 OK (My Page) on

All snug in their beds,
While visions of raised beds,
Dance in their heads.

At sixty degrees
They will stay for two days,
Once planted in your dirt,
They will surely amaze.

Don't put them in water,
While you wait for warm tides,
Follow instructions
In the growing guides.

Four inches apart,
With just enough fert,
Don't bury them deep,
Just half inch of dirt.

Don't let them go hungry,
Or ever dry out,
Lest growth be stunted,
The allium pout.

Some onions were boxed up,
Sent Priority post,
They'll arrive at your doorstep,
Three days at the most.

The rest will deliver,
This Friday pm,
Please be there on time,
Or send an IM.

Seedmama is sleepy,
This project is done,
It keeps getting better,
I sure did have fun.

So I've tucked in the onions,
For two days of rest,
Seedpapa points out,
The basement's the best.

I'm out of good rhymes,
Tis a sleepy girl's plight,
Happy onions to all,
And to all a good night!!!

RE: The onions are nestled

Seedmama-
I threw on some clothes and went to open the gate,
did not want to make the mailman wait,
I glanced now and then to see if he would arrive
He did not show to toss my onions on the drive.

Nevermind, I said, tomorrow we'll see,
If that fool will bring my onions to me,
He really doesn't have any sense,
When I went to close up, onions were at the fence.

So tomorrow I will call the PO to complain,
That this idiot did not come down the lane,
It won't be the first time I called in on him,
Will it be the last? the chances are slim.

He no longer hangs the parcels in a bag on the box,
What kind of mind? His head's full of rocks!
But he usually drives down and throws them out on the grass,
Which makes me want to kick his axx.

I had a good mailman but he has retired.
I don't really want to get a man fired,
Just want him to do his job, and do it right,
So I don't have to get all uptight.

Thanks for your help, you do good work.
Even if my mailman's a jerk!
Your hard work is appreciated,
But I'd still like to get my mailman traded.

Thanks!!!!
Mo

Ladies, I enjoyed the posts. Mo, did your mailman use to wear brown, if so I think I saw him on TV a couple of months ago.

You ladies are so talented!

Larry, We had that sort of FedEx person once who took it upon herself to toss a bunch of packages into a creek one day instead of delivering them.

I do remember the guy in brown who was on the news back around the holidays.

Apparently it is hard to find reliable people nowadays.

MO, I can't believe that you got yours already. Maybe mine will be here tomorrow. I won't get the first ones into the ground until Monday anyway, but did get the first bed ready today. I think the nights next week will be warmer so I am going to hold off until then.

We have only had about an inch and a half of rain in 2012, but when I rake the leaves back and look at my soil, it is still wet and nice. I will be putting some onions in the ground and some in a raised bed.

I think I might wait until early next week to plant mine, too. Given the choice between getting the onions in the ground right away on a day where the high temperature doesn't even get above freezing and waiting three days for highs in the 50s, I will wait!

Great poems!

If your choices were this weekend or waiting until the 21st what would you do?

Mia, If those were the choices, I'd plant them this weekend and then mulch them really well. I don't know how low your temperatures are going to go, though. In the 20s? I think they'll be fine if well-mulched. If the temps are going into the teens, I'll feel a bit more nervous but likely would plant them anyway if I was going to be home this weekend and could throw a heavy blanket on top of the entire bed before the temperatues plunge down into the teens. Just be sure you remove the blanket before the daytime highs get too high so the poor little plants don't roast.

Onions shipped fresh from Dixondale ought to be able to survive for at least 3 weeks before being planted, but I do think the sooner you can get them into the ground, the better.

Excellent, thanks, Dawn. NWS says 15 and 18 for lows tonight and Sat, so depending how wet and sloppy the beds are Sunday I might get them in. If not, they will have to wait a week until I return from a trip.

I'm going to place potatoes and onions at the polar opposite of any possible RR tie encroachment as bulbing/tuberous veggies are especially warned against planting near creosote-affected areas.

Do most people plant in rows that run East West? I am thinking do tallest plants at back (north side) and short plants (like onions) to the south at the front of the bed.
