More Winter Weather

on the way. The predictions are all over the board. Some are saying their isn't enough upper level moisture for much in this area and then another is saying 12 inches. Some are saying rain first and then snow. Some say over by Monday morning and others say it will last all day Monday. So guess we will know when it is over. And then a slight chance of another one mid week. And then maybe at least a short break. We got a lot of melting done today. Hopefully will get some more melted tomorrow. Jay

RE: More Winter Weather

Jay,

Here it comes again!

Mostly rain is expected way down here in southern OK, but the NWS has more than half of the state of OK, and portions of all the surrounding states under a Winter Weather Advisory.

Sunny and cold here this morning, but at least we have the sunshine.

RE: More Winter Weather

Dawn I'm sure something is coming. From the satellite photo it is too early to tell yet. Still out in CA area. Will see what the critters say today. As of last night wasn't seeing any indications of a severe storm. Knock on wood. I looked at forecasts by 3 different NWS sources for this area. Of course none are close and also Accuweather's. So again predictions range from 2-5 inches to 6-10 inches. Hoping for the low end. Another odd thing is they differ greatly on wind speed. From 10-15 to 20-25 with higher gusts. Of course the 20-25 site was saying 25-35 with gusts to 40 mph last night. So sure there will be lots of changes between now and Monday. Hopefully we are on the low end. Don't need blowing snow here now. Like I've stated many times with such wide variances I'm like most here take it day by day and don't heed the warning as almost 90% of them are overblown. I keep enough supplies on hand all the time to make it several days so just don't worry. Just hope everyone else is ready for whatever might hit them. Because this time of year you never know what Mother Nature might throw our way. Jay

RE: More Winter Weather

Jay,

I don't know how many of us will get precip or how much we'll get in any form....snow, freezing rain, sleet, rain, etc. Whatever happens, I don't think we'll get much in the Sun-Mon storm, but we're all going to be pretty cold. They are saying about 15 degrees below our average February high temps here.

I have noticed the wind projections are all over the place.

I'm slightly more concerned about the late week storm rolling in after this one, but only because some models have been forecasting more precip with it.

The latest El Nino updates I've read say we'll remain in an El Nino pattern through at least May, so I think you and Jan are likely to get your wish for more precipitation in the form of rainfall.

Weather here is so odd and you never really know what to expect. At this time last year, our county just starting to come out of a pretty bad drought with about 23" of rainfall in 2008 (our average is 36" to 38") and we fought massive 'winter wildfires' from September 08 through early April 09. In 2009, we received 53" of rain (15" of it fell in April alone, and most of that in one day), which certainly helped refill depleted ponds, creeks, etc. I'm expecting 2010 to be better than 2008 but not as wet as 2009. Ironically, our firefighters are 'antsy' because they aren't fighting many fires. I think they have forgotten how to relax and enjoy a wet year.

You're right....we never know what Mother Nature will throw at us....and this year she seems to be throwing everything but the kitchen sink.

Dawn
