| Just a continuation of the Spring Flint thread since that one is about to run out of space and takes a long time to load for those of you with dial-up. Please post aditional 'Spring Fling' comments on this thread. Thanks. Carol |
Follow-Up Postings:
| Thank you, Carol! I have a feeling as it draws near, we're going to be needing someplace to post "I've got this many extra...." or "I forgot to pick up some ...." Good Save!!! Paula |
| I agree that it was a good save! I expect there's a good chance this thread will max out in a couple of weeks, and somebody will be starting a Spring Fling Thread III before we know it. Dawn |
| Someone asked about mint...I have a couple of types that came back; if I can get some starts, I'll bring them. I have lemon balm (please someone take it!), chocolate mint, and possibly eau de cologne if I can get it to root. Also some other herbs, tansy, oregano, maybe dill & basil. My seedlings are looking pathetic so they may not make the fling, but my returning stuff is doing pretty well. |
| If anyone has a spare large-fruited tomato plant to bring to the fling I would give it a good home! I've got lots of cherry and roma sized tomato seedlings I will be bringing. |
| jlhart76, If you have extra, could you please get chocolate , eau de cologne, and tansy. Anyone has lemon grass/citronella grass? or any unique fragrant plants-Chandra |
| Mia - what kind of "large fruited" are you talking about? Like a slicer for sandwiches & burgers? I think between me & Dawn, we'll probably have you covered. At last count, I've only got 118 tomatoes seedlings left to pot up. (yes, I went seed-starting CRAZY this year....) I think I'll have an extra Royal Hillbilly, a Cherokee Purple and a new one I haven't tried before, Early Goliath. I'll also probably have an extra Yellow Mortgage Lifter too. The red ML....it just had issues so I don't have as many of those. What am I saying......I'll extra's of several.....sheesh. Paula |

| Hi Mia, I'll trade you a spare Sudduth's Brandywine seedling for a roma tomato seedling. jlhart, I asked about mint. I'm looking forward to any and all varieties I can get my hands on. But, if you have a spare chocolate mint, I'd love one. Kelly |

| I challenged Chandra and Jay to a Royal Hillybilly contest then didn't even start one. How smart is that? I have quiet a few tomato seedlings also, but not as many as usual. I will have Opalka to share in case anyone is interested. I dumped a very old partial pack of seed in a pot and they all came up. I have plenty of plants but they aren't necessarily the ones I should have planted. |
| Thanks, everyone! I'm open to any type for slicing. If you all have started them them must be good. Sounds like this group really takes care of each other. So glad I found you all! |
| Mia, I have planted many types of tomatoes, each type has two or thee plants, but I probably plant only one or two plants each type so expect some for the spring fling. Carol, Thank you for reminding me on Royal Hillybilly contest. I not remember how many of them growing in pots, I need only one or two plants, I will bring one for you if I have an extra. -Chandra |

| Chandra, That hardly seems fair. If I beat you then you will never share again. LOL |
| Count me in! tulsa folks- dh may not come with me so- female only please-sorry jlhart76, I have no idea what I will have extra. but I have 2 each of my 6 types tomatoes going and only have room for 1 each. there not as big as trees but o.k. lookin' so far-only 3 wks old. Can't remember others but have fun types speckled roman, zapotec pleated, cherokee chocolate. lots of basil too. I have tons of seeds to trade if that sort of thing is goin' on too. Also can do some spearmint cuttings. And of course I will bring food and door prize stuff dont know what yet. sorry for the book. terra |
| Terra - I sent you a PM. Imp - have you gotten anything from me yet? Have I missed anyone else? I want to make sure I've got everyone's e-mail as I'll be sending out a map to all around the 15th of April. Paula |
| I'm new here, so not sure how all this works.Thought I would post a list of some of the things I plan on bringing, so if anyone wants me to save something, I can mark it for them. Dark pink hardy hibiscus, curly willow tree cuttings, red spider lily bulbs and purple garlic. The passion vine is not up yet, but if comes up, I'll bring some of that to. Thanks, Lisak |

| Paula - how do I send you my email for the Spring Fling without posting it on the thread? I'm probably missing something obvious! Thanks, Sarah |
| Sarah - either go to my Member Page ("My Page") or go to Dawn's Member Page. Send either (or both of us) a PM. Several have encountered problems with my e-mail link, so Dawn volunteered to be my back-up. She's forwarded several to me so I know I can get it that way. Lisak - you did good! That's exactly the way this works and what this thread is for! I will have a table to place those specifically requested items if you put someone's name on them. Paula |
| If any of you have sent me an e-mail to forward to Paula and you haven't heard from Paula yet, please let us know. So far, I have forwarded to Paula every e-mail I've received so you should have heard from her by now. If not, say so and I'll double-check to make sure everything has been forwarded to Paula and then will check with her to make sure she's received all of them. Dawn |

| Anybody looking for flowering quince or sweet autumn clematis? The quince volunteers need to be dug before the first mowing- so please be quick if you are interested. Andria |

| Andria, I would like try quince and sweet autumn clematis. Thank you-Chandra |
| Sooner and Chandra- I have both your requests noted. Andria |

| Thanks Andria. I would take the clematis too, but I think the one I got from you last year is going to make it. With our minus 22 temps and heavy snow, I wondered about a lot of things, but so far so good. I haven't seen any canna yet, but maybe they will still come up. What a winter we had. |
| Andria - I would like to have a quince as well. I'll have some chiles and a few tomatoes, and some ornamentals to share. It's hard to know at this point, but I'll have something to share! Carol |

| My email was wiped out in the recent virus attack I had, so I don't know if the email for maps and dates and times and what not have gone out. I would HATE to miss this....have these emails gone out? Did I miss anything? I cannot believe my DH has agreed to come along!! |
| Ezzirah - breathe! LOL! No maps are going out until the 15th at the earliest....providing I can keep my s* together! LOL! If your e-mail has changed, be sure and let me know either thru my page or Dawn's (she ALWAYS has my back!). If it hasn't changed, then no worries! It's all good. I'm really feeling the vibe to be SUPER excited about the meet! Do you all realize it's THIS MONTH??? YEA!!!! I get to see all of you..old and new! Hope you all feel the same! Paula |
| Chandra, Kelly, and Terra: got a note on the mints y'all wanted. They're kinda spindly, awfully small, but considering they survived over winter in a pot, I'd say they're hardy. One of you asked about tansy, and I should be able to dig up a big chunk. The main plant is already over a foot high, and it looked like several others were growing like crazy. If it survives my potting up, I'll bring it. Seems like every time I try to pot up seedlings I kill them. |

| jlhart, Thanks! I went out on the weekend and bought a nice plastic container for the mint. I'm going to plant it in the same container with some lemon balm. I've never tried tansy. What does it taste like? Kelly |
| Imp - do you still have the cox e-mail addy? That's where I sent it. If you have a new e-mail address, please send it to me thru my page or Dawn's. (She's my back-up in case OK GW tells you I don't really exist! lol!) Paula |
| Thank you Andria and jlhart76. regards -Chandra |
| Tansy isn't a mint, and the taste is one of those acquired things. And seems like I read it can make some people sick. But its also a good bug repellent and supposedly good companion for roses and cucumbers. I rub the leaves on my arms and mosquitoes seem to less. Since I can't use deet, I'm always looking for more natural remedies. |

| I would love some tansy, please. Kelly |

| Can people who are bringing kiddos under 10 years old please check in with the age/sex of the child? I am thinking it might be fun for me to bring door prizes for the kids. But I need to know how many will be there so I can figure out what to get and how many. When it comes to young kids I wouldn't want to leave any out! Thanks, Jo |
| If someone has extra butterfly host and/or nectar plants, I would love to be more butterfly friendly. |
| Jo- that's a wonderful idea for the kids!! How thoughtful of you! I found some bubble wand tubes at WM for a buck a piece that I got for my grandkis & nephews for Easter. What kid doesn't like bubbles?!! Here's another offer - I think I'll have enough little tomatoe plants that we could get some cheap clay or plastic pots and some markers and let them pot up their own plant to take home in something they decorate themselves. But if you don't want to do that it won't hurt my feelings at all. Just saying....=) Paula |
| Jo and Paula, that sounds great!!! My girls are 4 and 6 (as of the 22nd), so a pre-k and a kinder....they are gonna love this! Jammie |

| Paula - ok, I will breathe!!!! I just didn't want to miss out on the chance to meet everyone! |
| Thanks for the great ideas! I found an online party supply store with several garden themed crafts and favors, so I placed an order. Each kid attending will get to decorate their own flower pot, and get ladybug bubbles and a butterfly lollipop. I just hope that not more than 12 kids are coming as these were sold by the dozen and I only ordered one dozen of each! Jo |
| I potted up five containers of iris orientalis and I think three of purple coneflower/echinacea. Carol, you wanted one of the iris, right? Lisa |
| Jo- That's so sweet of you to think about the kids. I'll be bringing my grandson he's 3.Looking forward to meeting everyone. Lisak |

| Carol, I have enough for 30 people, if they wanted them, but I ran out of decent sized pots to put them in! I will put your name on one. Lisa |
| Jo, so nice of you! I am sure kids will not forget you and their first spring fling in their life time! I'll be bringing my daughter she is 3+ -Chandra |
| OK...so I'm drafting the e-mail to you all that gives the map and other details. Hit a snag....do I "BCC" you all? or just put everyone's e-mail addy in the "to" box? Let me know? I don't want to offend anyone that's private about their stuff unless they CHOOSE to share. Just trying to be respectful. Can you believe it's only a couple more weeks!!!! YEA!!!!! Paula |
| I would bcc everyone...I'm not too worried about my privacy, but all the addresses really clutter up the email. I'm looking forward to coming! Lisa |

Disappointed not to come to the Spring Fling and excited that my son and wife will be here that weekend with us for a large family dinner. Hope we can come next year. Y'all have fun. I will try to get a box of Naked Ladies mailed off to you this week. Please send me your address via my email again. Thanks. Dorothy |

| Those favors are too cute!! It don't look like I will have any plants to trade...sniff...sniff! But I have my door prize ready and I have what I am going to bake planned out. Did someone mention tromboncino seed? I can use that! I have extra seed from last year, do I bring that or is that too old? |

| Jo, Did the children's kits come with pots or do you still need pots? |
| Carol- I quince set aside for you. Sooner/Chandra/Carol- The quince are potted, but having a rough time. I will baby them and hopefully they will recover before the swap. Seeker and Ezzirah- I have a small amount of Trombocino seed I can share. I may have a extra seedling for you each. They are germinating now. I planted three, but only need one. Andria |
| The kits come with cute little pots :) Jo |
| Yay for the ideas! You have shown me what I can share! I just ordered seed from baker creek for zuchetta, or rampicante--that's the same as tromboncino, right? And lemon squash, tatume, butternut and seminole....all the ones that should be bug resistant. AND...for the kids...a couple months ago Target had these masks in the dollar section that I loaded up on, they are adorable and totally match the items Jo has...there are 8 of them: a frog, spider, and various ladybugs, flowers, and butterflies. So we can just add them to the pot and maybe that will help even things out if more kids show. I bought them and was just hanging onto them in case my daughter wanted another garden party...but alas, she wants the princess party. |

| AWWWWWW...thank you for the seedling! You are too kind! |
| Here's my funny story. Two years ago mrsfrodo brought seedlings of zucchetta to the swap. At the end there were some left over and she asked me to PLEASE take one. When I got home I googled it to learn about its growth habit. I also inquired of mrsfrodo on the forum, but she wasn't active here immediately following the swap. I found absolutely NOTHING on the internet. I decided zucchetta sounded DIMINUTIVE, and planted it in a 3' by 3' spot. Mid summer, as the thing was taking over my parked car and producing distinctively shaped fruit, I googled again. Apparently this time I spelled it correctly. Its vines are known to run 25 feet in all directions. Joke was on me and my 3'x3' space! |
| Check your "in-box" everyone! I've sent an e-mail with map attachments to get you to the Fling. I sent one to everyone for which I have an e-mail address. If you don't receive an e-mail and think you should have, either contact me thru my member page or post here. Another option is to contact Dawn (my trusty back-up!) thru her page and she'll forward it to me. Two weeks and 2 days.....the countdown has begun!!! Paula |
| That's funny stuff, seedmama. I can't wait to see what it does here! We have a 3x25 ft bed I am putting it in.....we may have to fence the 3 ft side! But it's always a circus here, so I figure it will be fun for the girls and something to learn from. It sounds like a bush/vine on steroids. Oh! Maybe I'll train it over the lettuce to shade it! Jammie |
| Jammie, those masks sound SO cute. I am sure any kids coming will be over-the-moon happy! Jo |

| Thanks for the map Paula. I'm so excited! I'm going to pot up the Delice de la Table melons, eggplants, and lonely garden huckleberry, that I'm bringing to the swap this weekend. I also have some pea seeds for fall growing. Would anyone be interested in some mixed squash seeds? I ordered a gazillion of them from Botantical Interest. I could bring some of those too. Kelly |
| The date for the Spring Fling is still April 30, not this weekend? Right? Kelly just about gave me a heart attack. I am double booked if you moved the date. Lisa |
| AACCKKK! If it got moved, I'd be double booked also(actually, maybe triple) ! LOL! Breathe, Lisa!!! It is indeed still scheduled for April 30. I was afraid of too many conflicts if I held it Easter weekend so it's a week later than it was last year. Repeat...Saturday, April 30. I should have put that in the e-mail. (sigh) Paula |
| Paula - I haven't received an email. Are you trying to tell me something??? I don't want to miss the fling!!! |
| To the best of my knowledge it is still 4/30! Jo |
| Carol J - LOL!!!! No ma'am! And thank you! That's exactly what I was hoping for. When I hit the "send" button early this morning, I thought...."Only 29 addy's? Someone's missing...I just know it". Your's will be off to you shortly! Anyone else? Paula |
| I think Kelly was saying she is potting up this weekend for the swap, not that the swap is this weekend. Got my map, Paula, thank you! What is the "get there on time" not too early, not too late time? Might have two kiddos with me - trying to figure out family visits now. |
| Whew!!! Thanks!!! I'm digging up plants for the swap. I have 5 iris orientalises, 4 purple echinaceas, 3 black and blue salvias and 4 seed packs of zuchettas. I noticed I wasn't the only one with that brilliant idea. I vote we let Seedmama get up and regale us again with her zuchetta tale before we give them away! Lisa |
- Posted by piscesfish none (My Page) on Thu, Apr 14, 11 at 22:16
| Correct Mia. Sorry to make everyone so nervous. Kelly |
| MiaOKC - anytime between somewhere around 11 or as late as somewhere around 1. How's that for specific? LOL! Lisa - I think you're right!!! Seedmama gets to handle the auction of the zuchetta! (BUT FIRST....you gotta hear her tale of the 1995 trip to Cozumel. I had a really bad week a few back and was whining about DH'S food poisoning....after I heard this tale that involves sickness, weather, earth movements and just plain bad luck - I decided my life was pretty good. But you all just gotta hear it. I laughed so hard my sides hurt. AND ... I didn't feel so bad about where I was!) OH...and can I have dibbs on one of those purple echinaceas? Just one...and nothing else. Paula |
| Got my invite, can't wait. Seems like all I can contribute is herbs; my seedlings still look pretty crummy. Anyone want oregano or lemon balm? My single puny lemon balm is now a replicating monster. I think I have 3 shrubs, and I swear I saw a cat disappear in it last week. I learned the hard way that its a mint and mint = invasive. And I might be able to pot up some wild rose if anyone's interested. A co worker gave me a cutting last year and I accidentally let it layer a few branches, so now I have 4 or 5 bushes. |
| jlhart- I would love a wild rose!! I've gotta lotta fence to make pretty.... Jammie |
| I got the maps yesterday. Yay! Can't believe it's in 2 weeks, I'm really looking forward to it. Now, what to bring? I was thinking about bringing drinks, maybe some iced down bottled water and/or some 2 liter sodas? I've been trying to think of something that will travel fairly well. If there is something else that's needed or wanted, I am definitely open to suggestions. =) Michelle |
| Paula- I haven't received an email yet. I found the email from last year so I have an address and a map. jlhart- Bring your oregano and lemon balm. They are great offerings. And seedlings- don't forget they are just babies and they grow up to be big and strong. Maybe even giants. I have oregano in the yard, but have yet to make it through the winter with enough for spaghetti every other week- so bring on the oregano! Looking forward to meeting you! |
| I would be interested in sweet autumn clematis (yes I'll cut the blooms off before it seeds :-)), oregano, salvia, iris, I'm sure I'll be taking more; it always happens! I can bring orange mint for sure, and I can probably rustle up some Rose of Sharon seedlings. I have an all white bush in the front and a purple with pink center bush in the back. I can't guarantee the bloom color of course. |
| If we run short of Autumn Clemantis, I've got one that SEVERELY needs a hair cut, so there should be enough to go around. I doubt I'll get that done before the Fling, so we'll just do it on an as-needed basis. mrsfrodo- dang it! But I'm so glad you found last year's map. I'll send you an updated map if my feeble mind can remember. (heh!) ALSO - NOTE TO THOSE TRAVELING I-35 SOUTH TO THE US-77 EXIT!!! Cleveland Co. decided to re-route the turn onto my road in order to put in that new jail facilty (yeh, not really happy 'bout that). So you can take the same exit as noted on the map I sent, but the left (or east bound) turn is about 20 yards further south than last year and the terrain will look vaguely familiar but different. Like I said in the e-mail, I'll have my cell phone in my pocket so call! If you find yourself at a stop-light after exiting I-35, you've gone too far. Ok...so now I'm getting into over-drive on anticipation. I'm probably going to just have to plant my whole garden this weekend just to calm my nerves and keep me busy! lol! Paula |

| It just feels good to not hear the weather radio broadcasting every 15 minutes. We had a rather wild evening yesterday. One of my neighbors called and asked if it was OK if they came over because they were afraid. I said, "Of course, come on over." I was watching everything on the computer on two monitors and had two weather radios that I could hear from where I was. I waited for the neighbors and they didn't come. Finally I yelled out the door to see if they had started over and maybe I couldn't see them. Just as they came out of their house the city sirens went off, so two neighborhood families hit here about the same time, just as the weather radio said it was 12 miles SW of us. At that point, I grabbed the dog and headed for the shelter. That cell went a little south of us and crossed into Missouri but they didn't remove our warning. We barely relaxed from that one, and the Wagoner storm started coming our direction. We didn't go back inside the shelter again, but we continued to monitor the storm (and eat popcorn) and I bet all of us could have been inside with the door bolted within 60 seconds. I had some 'spooked' neighbors. |

| sorry about the double post. mrsfrodo that sounds great! Do you need me to bring anything for you? |
| Paula, After several attempts, I think I've edited my member page to now include my email addy (I hope). If you can't send an email through GW, then perhaps Dawn, Carol or Seedmama can give you my addy. Lookin' forward to the fling and Thanks!
Keith |
| Paula, I hope you go ahead and plant. I think it is "time". Don't you? Besides that, we have one perfect weather day expected today and it may be the only perfect one we have all spring. Sharon, The wind plumb wore me out too. I was so excited to awaken to "the sound of silence" this morning after all that raging wind the last couple of days. Carol, I thought of you and your neighbors in the tornado shelter when I read about the family whose mobile home rolled over with them still inside of it. In case you haven't seen it this morning, I'll link it below. Mostly I was thinking how lucky we are to have storm shelters to run to in frightening weather! We were only briefly spooked here, when the first storm crossed the Red River in the Courtney/Orr area and headed straight towards Lone Grove. Then, it turned, whizzed by Ardmore (this is when Ardmore sounded the sirens, and storm spotters in the Greenville-Overbrook area spotted rotation in the skiy) and headed east towards Madill, Tushka, etc. After that, for us it was all over. It is very disconcerting to hear storm spotters who are personal friends of yours saying on the fire radio that "we have a funnel cloud in the air but not on the ground...." and you hear the stress in their voices. Late in the evening, a little storm popped up a couple of miles south of us down closer to Thackerville and it dropped hail there before going east and tearing up Honey Grove, Texas. So, we had a big storm pass to our north and one to our south, and there we were in the middle with nothing, but I am not complaining! Dawn |
| It is morning and I need more caffeine. Since I forgot to link this above, I came back to link it now. This family's experience is a good example of why we need our tornado shelters! Dawn |

| Paula - I have not received an email yet....did you get to me yet? Thanks! |
| So far I've potted up orange mint, pink tall garden phlox, baby Rose of Sharon, baby lemon balm, and baby orange cosmos. I'm sure getting excited!! |
| Tigerdawn, I would LOVE some phlox. I'm bringing purple garlic plants, red spider lily bulbs, dark pink hardy hibiscus, curly willow tree cuttings (rooted) and so far I have 2 purple passion vines. I may have a few other things, but have to see how well they do before the fling. Thanks, Lisak |
| I promised lavender Crepe Myrtle cuttings to two people. I now know my CM didn't make it through the winter, so I can't fulfill my promise. Can anyone be my back up? |
| Is it ok for me to pot up divisions now for Spring fling? I'm usually just moving stuff around my own yard and do it in just one session so am not experienced with sharing things around. |

| Lisak - Purple passion vine sounds wonderful if you have an extra. |
| Seedmama, I was the original requestor of the lavender Crape myrtle. Despite my misgivings, my teeny, tiny, 5" tall Catawba Crape myrtle that I bought on Ebay last fall and that looked DEAD for months and months and months, is now getting tiny leaves. So, it is ALIVE! Not that I wouldn't love some more CM, but I have ONE that is alive and feel lucky. Maybe someone can bring you a cutting? Jo |
| I would also love purple passion vine!! |
| Soonergrandmom and tigerdawn, I'll put your names on them. Still looking for more to come up, if they do, I'll try to bring extra. Lisak |

| kelly, i've got hosta's that desperately require dividing. i'll bring some for you. don't know the actual varieties, but i think there's 3 different kinds. i'll bring lots, as i thought i remembered someone else asking about them. if anyone pruned their apple trees this spring, and still has the trimmings, my bunnies would love them, and i'd be happy to take them off your hands.... dody |
| What to bring, what to bring? Mmmmm. Most gardeners I know could always use a good troll. |
| Here is my tentative list of plants/seeds for Spring Fling; SEEDS: PLANTS Four-O-clock, Marygold, Mint: I can make more pots if there is more demand. Cheers -Chandra |
| I just sent an e-mail to 6 of you who still hadn't received maps: (sorry, some I know by name & others by their screen name! Some both! I try to use screen names if I can remember....or wrote them down on the 7 post-it notes I'm carrying around! LOL) Betty A week and three days left!!!!! Let me know if there's anyone else who was expecting an e-mail that didn't receive one? Paula |

| Chandra - I still want to claim one of those Eggplants, so don't forget me. LOL |
| Carol, I do remember, will write your name on both Royal Hillybilly and Thain Long Green! -Chandra |

| Carol, Do you still want one of my Black Beauty eggplants? Chandra, if you could write my name on one of those mints, that'd be great. Kelly |
| Kelly, I noted your name on mint. Do you have extra Black Beauty? If so I would like to plant one. -Chandra |
| Thank you K and P for inviting me to the Spring Fling. FYI- this is Dog-Biscuit (K knows who I am)!!! I will wait to the last minute to decide what to bring because there is always a last minute cancellation that leaves a food or door prize of sort, vacancy. I'll fill that void if needed. Just make sure K has the right info to pass along to me at our place of employment. There is a 50/50 chance I will be alone or 1 person with me (still up in the air). I'm afraid most of you are much more advanced with your gardening than myself so I have no yield or seedlings to contribute but I do expect to enjoy attending and will contribute however I can. Thank you, Dog-Biscuit |

| Kelly, If you only have one then give it to Chandra because I am taking one of his. If you have more than one, then I am interested. I had seeds but forgot to start any eggplant at all. You may recall that I lost a friend when it was time to start transplants and my life went a little crazy for a couple of weeks. In addition, I'm a little crazy most of the time. LOL Do you have plenty of tomato plants. I might have something you would like. |
| Welcome, Incahoots!!!! errr, Dog-Biscuit! Glad you came out of the shadows to talk to us! This place is a WEALTH of information, encouragement and friends. Garden Peeps - meet my friend, DogBiscuit...err Incahoots. DogBiscuit (Icahoots), meet my Garden Peeps! FYI - Incahoots work w/my DH and he noticed the mounds of cardboard DH was bringing home and the garden-talk started there. He's been reading along and told DH he'd like the come to the Fling, so heck YA! (Insert evil laugh - Attention all Enablers!!! We gotta a fresh one! LOL!) Welcome aboard! Paula |

| Carol and Chandra, I have eggplants for both of you (and one to spare). I would love some tomatoes, Carol. I'm so looking forward to the Fling! Kelly |
| Tigerdawn, I think I'll have volunteer seedlings of black-eyed susan vine I can pot up and bring you. Recent fires, fire-related VFD activity and the combination of very high winds/high heat have kept me out of my garden for the last 4 or 5 days. I don't remember seeing any black-eyed susan vine sprouts up last week, but I bet they're up now and I'll look for some to dig up today. Black-eyed susan vine has reseeded here every year since I planted it about a decade ago, so there's bound to be some out there. I'll let you know tonight if I found any after I finally get to spend a whole day in my garden today! Dawn |
| Kelly, I will have some tomatoes for you too. Dawn, I would like to try one black-eyed susan vine on patio pot if you have extra. Thank you -Chandra |
| Dawn....do you have more black eyed susan vine? :) I'd love some as well. Are you bringing any datura this year? Lisa |

| tree, are you set up to receive emails directly from this site? that could be part of it. i can always forward p-mac your email address if you want me to. dody :) |
| I didn't find any black-eyed susan vine sprouts today, but I'll keep looking and maybe find some tomorrow. I'll let y'all know if I find any to dig up and pot up to bring. Usually they're all over the place, but sometimes they don't pop up until May. Lisa, I can bring daturas, but they will be just the common white ones. I didn't grow yellow or purple ones last year. Dawn |
| My Angel Trumpet came back from the root, or it only reseeded right there. Either way, I'd love another. Thanks for looking for the black eyed susan vine! |
| I'm interested in cuttings for some landscaping shrubs. I'm in no position to be picky, so I'd be interested in most. I wouldn't expect you to get them started or pot them up. If you cut them the morning of the Fling brought them in a coffee can of water that would be great. If you had the time to let me know in advance what you might be bringing, I could have the rooting containers sitting here ready, along with the rooting hormone, and could stick them in as soon as I got home from the Fling. Any would be much appreciated. I should add that the fire hit sun, shade and part shade areas, and I have sandy, well drained soil. |
| Seedmama - remind me!!!I have offspring of 3 different flowering shrubs that I have in the front of our house. I'm going to be eliminating them anyway so you're welcome to them. Paula |
| Seedmama, I'll look, I bet I have some seedlings. Lisa |
| Seedmama, I have lots of shrubs in my yard and would be happy to bring you cuttings. This is my first time, so I just need to cut at a 45 degree angle above a leaf node, right? How long should the branch be? I have standard nandinas, dwarf nandinas (firepower and mini-standard-look), special more-purple nandinas (dwarf and standard size), variegated ligustrum, plain green privet, burning bush, tall standard semi-evergreen and short variegated euyonomus (think the short are emerald n gold and emerald gaity), flowering quince, lime green spirea with pink flowers, tall lorapetalum, a creeping dwarf lorapetalum, something I think is a forsythia (transplanted from another property I own where it was in the shade and very pathetic), indian hawthorne and those small dwarf (1 ft) hollies that have no thorns. Can't remember the name. Just let me know what/if you would like any of these and I'll add them to my post-it of things to bring to the fling. I also have Dawn down for some Mexican feather grass and Jammie down for beebalm and any perennials (phlox will be in your future, Jammie!) |
| I'll have purple and white Rose of Sharon seedlings. I can bring forsythia too if you'd like. |
| Dawn, the white ones would be perfect! |

| Hello, all. New gardener here from Blanchard area. I'd love it if the wife and I could come to the Spring Fling and meet some local gardeners. We're trying Square Foot gardening. Going wild on tomato selections! If all our plants grow and produce, we'll need help eating all these!! (Fingers crossed that we're overwhelmed!) Lee and Dale Donlon |
| Welcome, Lee & Dale!!!! We have several here who do or have tried the Square Foot method. And wild on tomatoes??? Boy oh boy......you've come to the right place! I'll send you an e-mail shortly with the pertinent info for the Fling. Thanks for posting! Paula |
| Hi Lee and Dale, It is nice to see you posting on the forum and I'm looking forward to meeting you at the Spring Fling! We have a lot of tomato maniacs here so you should feel right at home. I think all of us have the same goal every year....to raise "too many" tomatoes. There are some square foot gardeners here, and others like me who use some SFG spacing and some John Jeavons' Biointensive-type spacing. We discuss all kinds of gardening activity here, and watch the weather closely too since everything we do in our landscapes and edible gardens is affected in many ways by the weather. P-Mac, It looks like it is going to be a great Spring Fling and it is only 8 days away now. I can't wait! Dawn |

| whew, what a relief! I haven't been here in a while and was afraid we had missed the Fling. We are looking forward to meeting everyone, but failed miserably at pretty much everything I planted this spring. Last years' seeds? We have just bought a two-acre wilderness that DH Ben is working hard on taming, and will one day be beautiful... We'll come with lots of enthusiasm and Albanian cole slaw, but sadly no plants to share... |
| Joellen, You are so kind. I have just been out to look at my crepe myrtle, and it is sprouting back from the roots. That's encouraging because although i won't be able to share this year, I will be able in the future. Lisa and p-mac, You guys are always so good to me. What would I do with out you? Mia, what a lovely selection of shrubs. Some I recognize, and some I don't. I'd like to do a little homework, and send you an email if that's okay. Tigerdawn, I think you are offering me ROS and forsythis, but I'm not sure it's me you are talking to and don't want to embarrass myself by being presumptious. I like all of those, and would be very excited to have them. Thanks all! |

| I'll have a small number of Armenian snake melons that I hope will have true leaves by then. I'll know this weekend what else I can bring. Hopefully done Laura bush petunia and tansy and pink tall garden phlox. I'm mostly hoping for eggplant. |
| Bettycbowen, How Armenian snake melons tastes? Is that similar to melon or cucumber? If you have an extra, I would like to plant one. I will bring you a eggplant. -Chandra |
| Yes, Seedmama, I was talking to you! I wish I had more shrubs to share but that's all I have growing! There is a possibility I'll have white pampas grass. My friend dug it up last week I think but didn't do anything else with it. It might be dead, but if it isn't I'll bring some. |
| Seedmama, I did find a Fairy rose branch that had rooted. I saved it for you if you want it. I think I spotted a crape myrtle. I'll have to go find it again. Lisa |
| Seedmama, I don't suppose you'd like some horrible invasive honeysuckle? LOL! We have it all over the park by my house. Hey, I bet I can find other shrub seedlings in the park too! I'm going to have to go for a walk with my trowel and a bucket... |
| I am so disappointed. We're moving this week, and there's no way I can be gone all day Saturday - in good conscience, anyway. So, I've gotta miss the fling, and miss meeting all of you and enjoying the fun! Have a great fling! :( |
| Tigerdawn, I believe I'll pass on the honeysuckle, but thanks anyway. Carol, we will miss you! Lisa, I have just the right spot for the rose, thanks! |

| I second the "horribly invasive honeysuckle". I wanted some for a trellis outside the bedroom window ... it's taken over the front (north) planting bed. That's my best tomato growing area. Or should I say, it was. Razzin-Frazzin honeysuckle steals all the water and sunlight. In the fall, I'll move the wisteria out to the NW corner of the yard and clear that shade-maker from the tomato area, too. Lee |
| Of course, Seedmama! Email away. |

| Has anyone volunteered to bring nametags? With this many people (and all of our online "names"), we really should have a nametag that states our GW name and our "real" first name...maybe where we're from, too? Like: Shankins123 If no one has volunteered to bring them, I'll be glad to...along with a couple of Sharpies. Paula, how many do you think I would need to get? Sharon |
| Hi Sharon, I'm in the Village too... by the Y off of Penn. Looking forward to meeting you at the Fling! |
| Paula, Are you renting a Port-a-Potty again this year? I remember we all chipped in last year. That's a contribution those of us who aren't bringing lots can make. |
| wow....so many questions!!! And you guys think I'm paying attention to details??? LOL!!! Sharon - Bless Your Heart!!! And I don't mean that in a bad way at all!!! Last year, I tried to meet everyone at the driveway to introduce myself...and give them a name tag with their screen name also, along with any others they brought with them. Just ask Imp...it really got comical trying to spell everyone's name and then their screen name. GOOD TIMES! I intend...(read "best laid plans...") to do the same thing this year. I'll buy the tags if you would like to volunteer to take over when you get here??? That would be a TREMENDOUS help!!! And Seedmama...yes, ma'am!!! I've rented from the same company as last year. VERY clean and useful. It works well for everyone so they don't have to hem-haw around and ask..."where's the bathroom?". If anyone wants to contribute to help off-set that cost, it would be very appreciated. But I've got to say that I know/knew that was just part of trying to provide the most comfortable setting for my garden buddies. We can handle it but help is greatly appreciated. OMG...is it REALLY just less than a week???? REALLY??? You're coming??? I'm so excited!!! I can HARDLY WAIT!!! It's almost better than Christmas!!! And Carol II - (cjlambert)...so sorry you're going to be having to unpack boxes instead of being with us. But I've done it...it's really yucky. We'll be thinking of you and maybe next year? And I think we're going to have to start a Thread III...because the closer it gets........????? Countdown REALLY begins!!!! Paula |

| I think i've got my email fixed. My email is treepfs@gmail if not. |
| Anyone of you have extra Ildi and Goliath? Just one plant each will do. I don't know why these two tomatoes seeds did not germinate. Thank you -Chandra |
| Chandra - I'll look to see if I have any Early Goliath left. Would that work? I don't think I have any Italian Goliath left over. I'll let you know with a PM if I have any. Dawn may have an extra Ildi....I know she really likes their flavor. Only 5 more days! Paula |
- Posted by soonergrandmom Z6 Grove (My Page) on Mon, Apr 25, 11 at 13:43
| Chandra, Which Goliath are you looking for? I will have to check when its not raining (if that ever happens). The one I am most likely to have is Bush Goliath, but I may also have another. |

| Paula, SURE...if you're sure you want to buy the tags, I'll try to get everyone "tagged"...what do you think about a small card table...to fill out nametags and to put slips in a bucket for the doorprize? How have we done this before? Did someone bring the little double-ticket thingies? I (and my heretofore-volunteered-but-not-yet-notified helper) could give each person a nametag...fill it out to receive your doorprize ticket. That would get us tagged, and each person would get one doorprize ticket. What do you think? |
| Hi everybody! Jlhart76- im excited about the mint thanks! Chandra- Could I claim one of your toothache plants? Seeker1122- Loufa seeds? If you have some to spare I'd love a few. I have the following things so far that have survived potting up about a week ago 9 Lialac bush-lets terra |
| Sharon, We could even do single tickets and just put names on them to draw? I don't know how it's been done in the past, we'll have to wait on Paula for that, but I can definitely bring a small card table and I can pick up some sort of tickets or something to use for the door prize drawing. Michelle |
| Paula/Carol, Any Goliath will do. I hope Dwan will have extra Ildi. Terra, you will have a toothache! Thanks -Chandra |
| OH BOY! OH BOY! You guys are getting as excited as I am, aren't you??? I still have a very large roll of "double" tickets for the door prize drawing. Each person gets one after they put on their name tag. The identical duplicate goes in a bucket. (I've got one of those too.) This roll of tickets is soooo big that I'll be able to hand it over to whoever does the Fling next year, along with my tiara, sash and septor. LOL! (j/k...but not about the tickets!) Terra - remind me, but I have some extra loffa seeds. I think they're also called "vining okra". Off to plant some more tomotoes & peppers! Paula |
