You don't say how many plants you have or how big the harvested spears were, but if they are 3 year old plants and you had to move them last year, it might be a good idea to give them another year to build reserves. That said, the ferns that grow up and branch out inhibit that particular crown from sending out new shoots. So when the crowns are mature enough for a decent harvest, it is a good idea to pick early and often until the new spears emerging are smaller than a pencil. And with that said, I will say that many years when I quit picking my 25 year old plants in late May many spears twice the size of pencils grow up. I go by time as much as size. By late May to early June everybody I sell asparagus to has had enough, as have I AND the asparagus starts getting tougher and stronger.

Thank you. I have six plants and the ones I harvested were as thick as my forefinger - definitely bigger than a pencil - and delicious! Only three spears, so I mixed with some store-bought and roasted them, and O.M.G. the fresh ones were so much better.

I'll know next year not to let any fern out until the shoots coming up are skinny. If I get any more thick spears the rest of this season, I might have a nibble. :)

After this rain, you may get more spears. If they are as big as your finger, enjoy. I have had new spears come up in midsummer after a good rain, and I've grazed through the patch.
