Is everyone OK?

We were only on the very outer edge of the storm and it was just awful. The construction site across the way is a giant mess.

I hope all are well. We watched it on radar from here, and I also was following along on comments at wunderground because the weather watchers there are constantly posting updates and radar and live footage faster than it appears on TV. (They were linking KFOR a lot last night too.)

Bon, It sounds like it was a little too close for comfort! Glad y'all weren't any closer and hope your house and garden escaped damage.

April was bad enough, storm-wise, and now we have to get through the month of May, which tends to have just as much severe weather...or maybe even more.

Here at our house, I believe the summer drought has begun. No significant rain has fallen here in a month, ponds are drying up, ground is cracking, and the thought of having to irrigate heavily for weeks and weeks is giving me a headache. The garden looks great now, but with rain not falling, I don't know how long that will last. Still, with rain not falling here, at least no kind of severe weather is occurring...other than hot, gusty wind.

We received 0.25in rain yesterday night, no hails or wind damage! I was thinking to water since last few days, then we got rain. I not watered our garden this season with transplanting. Its been raining at perfect intervals once a week... how cool is that if that continues in May/June as well!

By the we have got our underground storm shelter installed yesterday! No need to rush to public shelter for the cover any more.

Chandra, That is good news since you can take shelter at home. Of course Al wants to know how big it is, and what kind you got, etc?

Its an underground garage unit (large) from ground zero storm shelters for $2995.00. I linked below to their site for more info. When I come home after work, my front yard looked like nothing happened until I open garage door to see nice work done. They installed in 3 hours, quite professional with neat and clean. Now I have some extra room for potato/sweet potato storage!

Chandra, That looks like a nice shelter. I'm so glad you got it. It will be so much safer for all of you than rushing to a public shelter. Having a cellar for root crops is just a bonus, isn't it?

OMG Dawn, you haven't gotten a drop of rain? Crapola! I have some stock tanks full of rainwater if ya need. lol

I think half my tomatoes are wiped from the hail the last time and wind yesterday. Somehow I'm not fretting. This part I knew would happen and 'tis why I planted so many.

Chandra, that's a nice one. Al said it got a super price.

Bon, I believe we've been either 27 or 28 days with no rainfall greater than 0.25" on any given day. Our rainfall for the month of April was slightly less than one inch. In a normal April we'll get 3 or 4" of rain.

Usually this sort of dryness doesn't hit us here until June, or maybe even July in a really wet year.

It isn't just the lack of rainfall that is discouraging. Our temperatures are running much higher than usual, and it is fairly windy every day. So, with it being hotter and windier than usual, and with little rain falling, everything is drying out very quickly. It is so dry here now that it is hard to believe our ground was totally saturated in March. At this point, March seems like a long, long time ago.

One good heavy rainfall would help a lot, but we have virtually zero chance of having any rain in the next seven days according to our local TV met who is usually right about such things.

After last year, I was hoping for a nice, wet spring, and it seemed like we were having one here until April arrived.
