dianthus mutant?

About 4 years ago I transplanted some red dianthus that someone was giving away. I think it was the annual kind but several plants have come back for the past 4 years or so. This year, one plant either split apart, or re-seeded itself, and what grew surprised me. It was basically a pinkish version of the dianthus with a much more upright growing habit, as the dianthus I planted has a mounding form. I figure it is either a mutation, or some sort of cross-fertilization occurred. I have some of the perennial dianthus out front, but otherwise I have daylilies, Asiatic lilies, and a few other perennials growing in that bed. Any idea what happened here? Either way it's pretty cool. I'm trying to attach a pic.
