Wed 5/29/2013 SPC Convective Outlook

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

There is a risk of severe weather today in Oklahoma and some adjacent states.

I've linked the Storm Prediction Center's Convective Outlook for today below.

You also can look at the graphics on the NWS-Norman weather forecast office's webpage if you want to see the details of today's forecasted weather outbreak in a graphical format.

The setup for today and likely tomorrow as well, in terms of various weather conditions coming together to create severe weather, possibly including tornadoes, is every bit as serious as last week's conditions on May 19th and 20th, and we remember what happened last week.....so let's take today's threat seriously and let us also hope that nothing bad happens anywhere.

Please remain alert and aware of local weather conditions, and seek shelter if conditions warrant. Don't let these storms pop up and catch you by surprise.

REMEMBER THAT A TORNADO CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME, AND WITHOUT WARNING. It is nice when we have warning, but sometimes these things spin up so fast that a storm may be affecting you even before the NWS can get the warning issued.. Please be careful. There were tornadoes in several states yesterday, and more seem likely today.

The gigantic Tescott, KS tornado that spun in place (in a rural field) for 90 minutes yesterday was horrifying to watch, and we can watch it because a gazillion storm chasers were there filming it. The lack of foward movement for so long was highly unusual, but serves as a great reminder for all of us that tornadoes do not always behave as expected.

I'll post Dr. Forbes TORCON Index for today on its own thread.

With the convective outlook posted below, remember that you can click on the words Tornado, Wind and Hail at the top of the page to see the specific risk area and the degree of risk for those specific conditions.
