Planting Sweet Potato Slips

Well, it's time! I'm taking off a couple of days this week and hope to get a lot out in the garden. Sunday afternoon I put in about 45 slips of Red Wine Velvet and Brinkley White sweet potatoes. I still have a lot more to plant.

Last year I tried drip irrigation and plastic mulch. It was a smashing success. So, I'm doing it again this year.

I thought I'd take a moment to mention two tips:

1) If you start your own slips, and they get really long, you can use one to make two hills. I plant one end in either spot, and they both produce.

2) If you plant early enough (now might still be early enough) in a few weeks you can take cuttings from your plants and start more.
