In the first pic, there's a lesson to be learned:

Don't use partially composted compost in your rose and lavender beds, or you'll get little suprises later on...

I think that iris rhizomes have to be nuked from orbit, if you want to make sure they're dead, before you put them in the compost heap.

It's a pretty pic, though.
