Mia, they look very nice. If I had planted with it that dark all of mine would have been in the same hole. I planted 18 tomatoes and 1 tomatillo yesterday evening. I planted about 150' of corn this morning. I seldom use fertilizer, but I will side dress the corn with Nitrogen when it gets about 6" tall.

Larry, I'm assuming if you don't use fertilizer, you are relying on your well amended and beefed up super soil?????

Susan, I live in an old mining area the soil has a pretty high mineral count anyway, but is very heavy and tight. By the time I add enough organic matter to improve the texture the soil is pretty good, but I have very shallow top soil and it is difficult to hold a good water supply. I have the type of soil that should have a raised bed over it but because of my age I dont want to install any. I use sort of an elevated, border-less style of bed.

I do use fertlizer from time to time. Liquid fish is what I had rather use but I dont like the way it smells. My P & K runs from optimum to 3x optimum, the nitrogen will vary with conditions, so I seldom add anything other than organic matter and a little nitrogen, never more than 3 lbs, of nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft..
