I love wildflowers,even the ones most people call weeds. I mow around them whenever I can and I have trained Tim to do so, although sometimes he forgets. Sometimes when a wildflower pops up in the garden, I let it stay. At least they are pretty and they attract pollinators.

We try to carefully time the mowing of the meadows so that the cool-season wildflowers are able to set and disperse seed before we mow. Then, after the warm-season wildflowers are blooming, we will only cut about 8-10' wide pathways through the meadows. We make them wide enough that a group of people walking through the meadow can spot snakes ahead of them on the ground, but otherwise like to enjoy the wildflowers for as long as possible. When it gets really hot and really dry in July or August and wildfires become a very real issue, we'll mow everything down low. Even then, I try to mow around the liatris, goldenrod and helenium if they haven't bloomed yet.

I like most wildflowers, but there's a few that are so invasive that I don't even like to leave them growing in the meadows....particularly close to the gardens. Queen Anne's Lace is a royal (pun intended) PITA that is so invasive that I yank it out whenever I get the chance.

I purposely grow them in my flower beds :) evening primrose and dames rocket are both blooming their hearts out at the moment. Linaria will be blooming soon. They all deserve their reps, but they are pretty and I try to stay on top of them.

Pretty, aren't they? IIRC, that's lemon clover. Has a kind of sweet-tart lemony flavor. Can be used in salads and such.*

otoh, they really don't belong in a 'perfectly manicured' lawn. Thus, they're considered to be a weed, instad of a veggie...or a very pretty flower.
