How great is this

Some of you may have read my first post about building a garden and my reasoning behind. The memories of my mom and I living in the apt above my great grand parents, my memories of them and his garden. Well we came to dallas this weekend to visit. While having some great conversations about food life and gardens and my mom asking me about mine. She disappears. And reappears 5 mins later with this and said I've been waiting to give this to u. It was my great grandads tin with an envelope from the 30s from stark bros nursery and inside it is pumpkin seeds. This was the tin he would save his seeds in. What a great gift. I'm in awe. I'm speechless I'm 40 and almost shed tears. What a neat gift my great grandad who my son is named after was a steward if the earth gardened his whole life. Would walk 5 miles with a ladder to fix a roof for someone. I can only imagine what went in and out of this tin.

Pumpkin seeds I know they won't grow but I will certainly try.

Oh, yeah. You've got to plant some of them. No question about that...and if any of them come up??? Oh, my...I can only imagine how that would feel.

Keep the rest in a safe place. ...and pull them out once in awhile, just to remember ...and to think about the future.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they grew. (I hope so!)

You...have just had Christmas in May! What a wonderful treasure, whether they grow or not...but I'm hoping they do!

Sometimes old seeds can be difficult to wake up and they need some help to germinate. Some people have found that soaking old seeds for a couple of hours in compost tea or in any water-soluable liquid fertilizer at half-strength to full-strength helps get the old seed to germinate. So, if they don't germinate normally, you might then try soaking them.
