Christina, Dawn has posted a link before that works magic for me in hot weather planting. The picture shows planting the seeds in a furrow and covering with potting soil or compost and then keeping it damp till the seeds germinate, it has never failed for me. My soil packs and crust over after a rain and sometimes the seeds wont come up. I think you have time to plant, but may need to supply a little water.

I've planted okra as late as July and harvested more than I knew what to do with up until the first frost, so it' not too late!

Definitely not too late to plant.

I'd go ahead and put the seeds in the ground as soon as possible so the rainfall can help them germinate. The seeds should not rot assuming you don't have standing water in the garden nonstop after you plant the seeds.

I'm still planting my okra. Started last week and will have most in by this weekend. I'm planting lots of Heavy Hitter so if it does well should have lots of fresh seed this fall. Received some seeds for a large tender podded variety that has been grown in the Leedey, OK area for maybe 100 years or longer. A heirloom variety. If it does well I'll save seeds of it also. Like some of the others I've planted the first week of July and have had it produce well. I'm just getting my okra and sweet potatoes in this week. Both should do well.
