Sat 6-25 Red Flag Warning-SW & WC OK

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

The NWS has issued a Red Flag Fire Warning for some counties in southwestern and west central Oklahoma and in adjacent portions of western North Texas.

Please note that in addition to the usual Red Flag Fire Warning conditions (high wind, high temps, low RH), the ongoing drought has dried/cured vegetation so that little moisture exists in unirrigated vegetation. Thus, any fires that start will have plenty of fuel and may have explosive growth potential.

It is in effect from 1 p.m .through 9 p.m. this afternoon.

Some of these counties (maybe all of them, I didn't double check to see) have a Heat Advisory as well, so conditions will be brutal.

Check the map at the linked webpage of the Norman office of the NWS to see which counties are affected. You can click on any county to see its forecast and can click on any warning, watches or advisories listed on that county's page to read specific details.

Finally, even if you are not in the Red Flag Fire Warning area, remember that wildfires have been occurring with increasing frequency and intensity the last few days. The difference between being in a "Red Flag" county and being in your county elsewhere might be that the "Red Flag" county has Extreme Fire Danger, and your county might have Very High or even Very High to Extreme fire danger. It can be a fairly small distinction.
