Water Bottle Garden

I lifted this pic from a friend of mine in the Philippines. They are avid proponents of helping their community learn to grow food. The soil there is not great (very shallow over some type of chalky looking substance), but they also have a community goat program and a vermiculture program, so they make their own compost.

I thought you all might find this interesting. I'm still trying to figure out the details. Some of the other pics show what look like straws running through each bottle as well.

We used one liter water bottles and hanged them on top of each other so that the water will drip from one container to another, maximizing the use of water, not to mention labor. You water one and five bottles below gets watered slowly. We use earth worm cast, which is the best containerized gardening soil material. This maximize space and it looks great on fences.
