Sammy, the best thing I know to battle grass in flowerbeds, I assume we are talking bermuda, is Grass Be Gone (it will say 'safe for landscapes') It will take several applications, but it does work.

I have to spread larkspur and columbine seed, maybe not every year, but regularly. If you are just getting started, I would sow seed every year for a couple of years.

I'm impressed your larkspur is just now fading....it has been LONG gone in my garden.

I do have a yellow columbine that does exceptionally well. I think I got the seed from the seed exchange, so I don't know the name for certain, but I think it might be texas columbine? It blooms for a long, long time.

I'm not an expert. I am battling my own bermuda battle because I didn't do anything with my beds last year. I am digging the burmuda out by hand. For the beds with desireable plants, I am digging out all of the burmuda around the flowers and then I dig up the flowers and transplant them to a nearby cleaned out area that has the burmuda already removed.

I had added lots of compost and mulch when I originally put the beds together a couple of years ago so this has made the digging easier. I am heavily remulching the areas after I dig to prevent future infestations. Also, I was given the advice to roundup around the outer edges of the flower bed to keep the bermuda from crossing the barrier. You just have to make sure you don't overspray onto where you want flowers to grow or the flowers themselves. I have done this twice already this summer and it seems to have helped tremendously.
