And this year, unlike last, we are drier than you are. Very depressing indeed. What's even more is that it keeps raining around us but not ON us.

Yesterday when I went out to pick the container tomatoes it started to sprinkle and I just kept walking and picked them. When I came back inside, I told Al that I was wet as usual, but for once it wasn't sweat. LOL All we got was a sprinkle, but I enjoyed being wet and cool for a few minutes. He had been to the range a little earlier and got rained out, and he wasn't that many miles from home.

It is sad. I didn't think we'd ever have a year when I had more moisture than you, George, Scott or Carol. However, in the last 30 days, my county's rainfall has been very low, so we're going to catch up with y'all, so to speak, if we don't get rain.

Compared to last year, we're in great shape. We've had 20" of rain, though 2/3 of it was months ago...ending in April. At this time last year, we'd had about 10 or 11". We're definitely greener and unfortunately we are a lot more humid.

For most of us, the rain really has dried up in the last month and that's typical, but it sure isn't good news.

One thing that worries me is that our ponds no longer hold water. It doesn't matter how much rain falls, the ponds will hold it a few days and then be dry again. I'm starting to thing our big pond may never truly hold water long-term again. It is like the soil recovers less and less with every drought. I remember when spring rain/runoff would last until about August after the spring dried up, then the pond would be dry a couple of months, and then rain would start up in November and the pond would hold water until August. It isn't doing that any more.

After seeing all the news reports on how the drought is affecting the crops this year, I'm bracing for sticker shock at the grocery stores in the next few months.

The map linked above shows that we need over 15" to break the drought. We got .2" this afternoon, bringing us up to 4" in the past 10 days. The rains have been very scattered and with high winds but they are still very welcomed. Up until about 10 days ago we were as dry as a bone.
