It is sorta heart breaking for me to pull my plants, but it helps if I have other plants in mind to plant in that area. I pulled all but 2 of my tomato plants and plan to go back with a fall/winter crop. My peppers are still doing well, I have lost one pepper plant this year.

Larry, I do find it is hard to pull out plants in August if they are still producing, but if you need space for fall plantings, there's no way around it. I consider it a necessary evil.

Leslie, With all the rain you've had this year, I thought you might be going to tell us you were going to start building a boat or something.

At least you have had enough moisture that having a fall garden is an option! That makes it a pretty good year.

There's still time to plant oodles of things from seed. I haven't been watching the stores to see if they have any fall veggie transplants in yet. Have you seen any?

August is the worst gardening month for me and my garden. We just try to survive it.

You still could plant bush beans, lima beans and cukes from seeds, and plenty of the cool season crops from seed as well, or from plants if you can find them.

I'll link the fall garden planning guide below for anyone who wants to check the dates on it and see what sort of plants or seeds still can go into the ground for a fall or winter harvest.

We've had a little over 10 inches of rain this year, so we probably really haven't had enough rain to be planting a bunch of stuff in August, but I'm going to do it anyway. It's never going to rain enough here, I just have to deal with it.

I haven't seen any transplants in stores here. For a long time, Walmart had spring plants left, but those have all been gone for a while too. I was kind of hoping they'd get them, but that's okay.

I'm going to start bush beans, cucumbers, summer squash, winter squash (a little late) and carrots now. I'll wait on anything else. I was going to grow potatoes since I didn't plant any this spring, but I don't have any ready.

And I think I may go ahead and start corn. I know it's late based on the OSU guide, but I'm going to do it anyway. If it freezes I won't have any corn but if I don't plant...I won't have any corn.
