This will not be at all helpful, but I cannot resist....

Get plants that don't need even a drop of moisture for six months at a time, but can also handle being flooded and completely soggy. You know, the ones that adore sitting in 100+ degrees, don't shatter when incased in ice and can dance in a straight wind. The kind that can receive a hail storm like a tired person receives a massage. The kind that are resistant to the insect kingdom at large and smell bad to deer and rabbits. The kind that likes to cuddle up under a blanket of snow and thinks that all temperatures below freezing are "bracing".

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha..... Personally, I am starting to think rocks look pretty good!

I don't know that I'll have any answers at all, much less perfect ones, but I'll try. I have no experience with growing on rocky soil as I am in a dry creek hollow in the Red River Valley with dense red clay.

Do you have white limestone rock or some other kind? Also, do you have any idea what your soil pH is? Is your soil sandy, loamy or clayey? Hopefully it isn't almost pure rock.

Also, do you know how well your soil drains? Or if it drains well at all? I think that most years y'all get pretty good rainfall there, but this is not a good year.

I can come up with some ideas, but it would help to know more about your soil. I don't want to recommend plants that prefer alkaline soil, for example, if your soil is acidic.

okievegan, It might not have been helpful, but it was very entertaining. Just paint rocks green and you'll think you have a lawn. Paint some rocks pink and you have azaleas, and then paint some yellow for daffodils or sunflowers, depending on the season. Painted rocks could solve all our drought problems.
