Interesting. Jefferson wasn't the only President who loved his fresh vegetables. My daughter's family visited Mount Vernon a couple years ago and came home raving about the vegetable gardens there. Right now there is an exhibit at Gilcrease in Tulsa on George Washington's life. The exhibit I found most interesting was the tabletop model of the house and grounds, including the gardens. Too bad more of our modern presidents, and other politicians, aren't gardeners.

Paula, I read that article in Southern Living and loved it. I've long admired his garden efforts. It is astonishing how many different varieties of a single vegetable he'd grow...and his garden and other living expenses often kept him broke and in debt.

Dorothy, There's a book about our founding fathers who farmed and gardened (who didn't farm back then if they wanted to eat?) and I believe it is called "Founding Farmers". I haven't read it, but might get around to it one of these days.
