Sorie, That's a terrific harvest. Congrats. We have tons of squirrels but they've never bothered the sunflowers much, although the deer will eat the flower heads. Our woodland includes lots of nut trees, particularly native pecans, oak trees of many different kinds, black walnuts and some sort of hickories, and I think that the nut trees keep the squirrels happy enough that they don't bother the sunflowers.

Sorie, those are nice. I don't think any of mine got that large. Some, maybe all of mine are lying on the ground now. I just walked along the edge of the bed where mine are and saw fresh deer tracks, along with some missing ornamental sweet potato vines, so I may have some missing sunflower seeds also.

Wow, those are huge. I only planted small flowered types this year, and I noticed the other day that the goldfinches are busy working the seedheads. That's why I plant them so it's ok.

I planted smaller sunflowers on the west side of the house and the goldfinches are enjoying them.

Oh my goodness. Those are wonderful.
Mine were pretty big too.
I've been trying to remove the seeds. Is there an easy way to do that?
It still amazes me--you plant one little seed that grows into that big flower and it has dozens and dozens of additional (little) seeds.
