I have hostas outside in pots. I used to put leaves around them for protection but they lived through winters when I forgot to do that. I think they are pretty hardy. You don't know where they came from - if they have always been in a greenhouse they may be more tender. I would plant them outside in a place that gets some shade in summer with good soil and close enough to the hose to get some water. The leaves will die in winter. Put a little stake or marker where you plant them. In spring pointy buds will push up. They will look good in spring and may get ratty in August.

So i should just go ahead and plant them outside tomorrow? if its not pouring rain that is. I've got a spot picked out that will get a bit of morning sun then afternoon shade. Any tips as far as planting?

I would not want to keep them in the house all winter so yes I would plant them outside. They go dormant in winter so it will look dead. I have given up on them in spring before and then they sprouted those pointed buds. Don't bury the crown too deep. You should be able to tell the soil level on the one you have. Why don't you ask on the hosta forum. This thread is about someone with new hostas. One person is saying to let them stay in a cold garage for a while. Why don't you read this thread.

They do rot sometimes so don't plant it in a place with poor drainage.
