Without a photo all i can think of thats jet black with brown head is a cowbird.

I was thinking the same thing.

Tree, If it is smaller than the usual cowbird, it might be a juvenile one.

The way the wind is blowing today, it probably is trying to stay warm.

My post got cut short the part of it not being a cowbird disappeared.
Its tiny with a purple shimmer.

It was blowing real hard and rainy hear wen it showed up.
Smaller than a common sparrow. Damn I need to learn how to post pics.

Just got a tablet and can't figure that out either. the book is 1 inch by 2 inches I'd need a microscope to read it.

Look up Brewers blackbird and rusty blackbird. I don't know if they are as small as you were saying. It didn't give size in the article I read and it has been too long since I have seen them. Brown headed cow birds aren't terribly big. There are a couple of other cowbirds, like bronzed cowbird, but they live in south Texas and Mexico.

I've never seen bronzed cowbirds here, but I can imagine they might come this far north some years. I've seen some birds here some years that I never expected to ever see here, so it isn't hard to imagine that the bronzed cowbirds might be in Tree's part of the state. I have seen rusty blackbirds but I think they were bigger than what Tree described. Still, we all have to remember that sometimes a person is looking at a half-grown adult, or at a female, and their size and coloring won't be the same as the full-grown males (which often are the ones shown in ID photos).

One of my neighbors commented 3 or 4 years ago that after all the terrible drought years since 2005, he's seen a lot of rare birds here that you normally don't see in Oklahoma. Maybe we have some of those rare birds still hanging around here.....maybe once they came here to visit, they liked it.
