Boy, Dorothy, I don't know, but it kinda reminds me of a groundcover Phlox bloom. Is it in sun or shade and what does the foliage look like?

It was in bright sun on the south side of my uncle's carport in poor soil. (He is interested in wildflowers and often calls on me to identify them. In this case I failed.) He didn't plant it; it just came up. The leaves are visible in the top near the hollyhock leaves. They are lance shaped and blue green. I don't remember if alternate or opposite, but they look opposite. We have wild woodland phox here but this isn't it. The flowers were a pale clear pink. We have starry campion here and the growth habit reminds me of that. I have Ozark Wildflowers by Don Kurz and A Field Guide to Wildflowers by Roger Tory Peterson and if it's in either of those, I missed it.

It looks like a pink of some kind or pink relative like campion. This picture looks a little like yours.

By golly, you've cracked it!! I do think that is the same plant. We have the Saponaria officianalis here but neither of my books have that one. Thanks Helen.

Wow Helen, Impressive ID!

I think that is such a pretty little flower, but I was thinking it might be a phlox, though I couldn't find any that matched the photo.
