The Rose of Sharon I use to have would withstand almost anything.

If they are near wires be careful. I would certainly get them far away from any wires. My experience with Rose of Sharon is that cutting it back makes it flower more. I don't know if there is a limit to how much it can take. The wood is easy to cut with a lopper and I cut mine back and reshape them all the time. I don't know that I have cut as much as you are planning. I just gradually work on mine all the time. They can be a nice shrub. You see them neglected all the time and it is easy to forget how pretty they can be.

Yeah. I really don't think I can kill it, but I wanted some voice of experience before I butcher it. It's been shaped over the years in a nice way avoiding the bushy look. More like threes with upright branches. And it's a prolific bloomer. Still budding right now.

Bon, I don't think you could hurt it if you tried. Please do be careful when cutting anything near power lines.

You can cut it back however you chose. However, I wouldn't lop off all the limbs at the same height, leaving it looking like someone came in with a chainsaw and gave it a flat-top haircut, so to speak.It will look a little more natural if you cut back various branches at different heights instead of cutting all of them to the exact same height.

Prune it however it suits you. It is your plant and I don't imagine there are any Rose of Sharon Police who will show up and tell you that you cut it back too much. Rose of Sharon grows quickly, and usually you'll get tons of regrowth in the year after you prune it in the fall or winter and, since it blooms on new wood, you'll get lots more blooms after a good pruning.
