Frost Advisory For Western Half of OK 10/30-10/31

At 7:55 p.m., the NWS issued a frost advisory for most of the western half of the state. (I was expecting this and covered up some of my plants just before dark even though I am not in the Frost Advisory area.) It affects areas as far east as Stillwater and Ponca City.

If you are in the western half of the state, you should be aware of this advisory, and remember that in certain conditions, frost can form at 38 degrees.

I've linked the NWS webpage below and you can see the Frost Advisory area on the county map at the bottom of that page.

P.S. Rejoice, soggy gardeners, because there is good news in the forecast too, which states there is "little to no chance of rain".

I did a quick scan of several locations in southern KS and OK and looks like most if not everyone stayed in the upper 30's to the mid 40's. Depending on location. For the next five days they are saying 60's and possibly a 70 degree day with lows in the 40's with sun. I was talking to a coworker yesterday. Out of 30 days we had 16 cloudy ones. That is a lot for us and I'm ready for the sunshine. Muddy here. Sure the car wash guy like to see me. He has lots of good mud after I leave. Jay

We went to 35 degrees here in the Red River valley, but didn't have a heavy frost so I am still a happy camper and my garden still lives.

I do have light frost damage on tomatoes and peppers, but only on the uppermost parts of the plants. I did harvest a lot late yesterday afternoon so I wouldn't lose it if we frosted. I put up 8 quarts of beans and today I have to do cucumbers and peppers. It seems like I do a "last chance" harvest once every week, and then we don't frost or we have only a light frost, and the garden gets to produce a few more days.

I'm excited about the warmer, sunnier weather because the green beans are producing like gangbusters and another week will give me another big bean harvest (big for fall, any way).

Tim is a car wash maniac and our driveway is still a muddy oozey mess, but he washes the car once or twice a week and then drives up the muddy driveway and gets it dirty again.

It is going to be a long, muddy winter if this weather keeps up.
