Here is another pic of the vine..

Are there any leaves on the vine? Or are all those persimmon leaves? Are you sure it is a vine and not a small, limber tree or shrub? Have you tried crushing a couple of the berries between your fingers and smelling them? Finally, what part of the state do you live in?

It resembles a privet shrub an Oklahoman recently identified. If it is, this one is stressed (and over grown). But you suggest a vine, so it wouldn't be a privet shrub in that case.

The leaves you see are the leaves on the vine, the persimmon trees have already lost their leaves. Small, oval and ribbed with a middle vein that comes to almost a point. And this is definitely a vining plant, there are many like this crowding out the persimmon trees in this area.... As for crushing, there is a seed in there, itmstains dark blue, and i cannot get much of a smell.

Well, after some more looking, my wife is convinced it is a privet berry bush, even though it is all viney lookin.... That is really sad.

Sorry to hear that. Poisonous, it is. Unlike poisonous nightshades, this evergreen doesn't have beneficial healing properties. And it's invasive. That's just cruddy!

Makes a nice hedge, though.

There were a good many privet hedges in NJ when I was growing up there. They smell of their flowers, in the spring is exceedingly strong (sweet) almost to the point of not being agreeable. Just a "dab" of privet nectar in honey gave it a very disagreeable/bitter flavor. Beekeepers hated privet!

A colleague of mine at the Uni is good at this, and it turns out it is not privet, but Berchemia scandens.... Very close resemblance though!
