| I've fallen in love with Ilene's blog. Who else here has one? Please post your link if you have one because I bet I'm not the only one who would love to subscribe.

I have one, but it's mostly for organizing my thoughts. Occasionally I'll put in a how-to on baking or something. I try to get on there at least once a week but life gets busy sometimes. tigerdawn.blogspot.com "Talk To Me After My Tea"
RE: Who else has a blog?

I just started one. Mostly because I couldn't find one from my neck of the woods which I think is strange. I have been keeping a very rough daily journal mostly garden related for about 5 years now and someone talked me into the online version. Now I include a little bit of this and that about my life on the farm in the Ozarks. I am such an amateur with it, it is embarrassing but I struggle on.

Thanks to you both! I've added both blogs to my RSS feed doohickey so you'll go straight to my email inbox with each post. Yay for technology! Diane
RE: Who else has a blog?

Diane, I need to do that doohickey thing....I check several each day to see if they have a new post.
RE: Who else has a blog?

I love doohickeys! I'd never be able to handle checking them all manually. My mac mail software has the built-in doohickey so all I have to do is add the url for the feed and voila. Easy peasy. By the way, I just found the family cow site through your blog. We're shopping for one right now so that site will come in handy, as will your blog. Diane

Diane, I actually found my cow through that KAFC forum. Her posting name is Jenn and she lived not too far from us. She is a registered Milking Shorthorn and has been perfect for us so far. We also bought her calf at the same time which was a purebred milking shorthorn. And she had another heifer in August out of our Black Angus Bull. I would love to find a MSH bull to use on her and a group of beef heifers I need to breed soon. I can't remember if I have pictures of her on my blog or not....will have to check. You may not need any advice at all about a cow, but I will be glad to share any of what I know with you. I have had milk cows before when the children were small and we first moved to the country wayyyyyyyyyyyy back in 1976 and we had a small dairy for 15 or so years. Glenda

Glenda you are becoming a real picture-taking pro. The pics on your blog are gorgeous. Blogspot finally gave me the capability to add links to other blogs and I've added both Glenda's and Diane's blog, which, by the way, has not been mentioned here yet. So the link is below. I'll put yours on there too, Tigerdawn. I have Diane's set up so that I get an e-mail whenever she posts. I tried to do that with Glenda's but it didn't work. Now that I've got links to them on my blog, though, I can see whenever there's a new post, so I might just go entirely by that. If it looks like I've quit following your blogs, I haven't, I'm just going to go about it a different way. Mine is kind of rough. I'm learning how to do things as I go along. I take pictures only good enough so people can tell what they are LOL. I spend so much time with the words that I don't have the time to play with the camera. That faded background thing that Glenda has down looks great, though, and is real tempting for me to learn because there's usually so much junky stuff in the background of my pictures. These blogs are a lot of work sometimes. My major problem is one of organization. I'll take pics to put on the blog, then have trouble finding what I did with them. Etc. I tell myself every morning that this is the day I'll start cleaning and organizing and then I'll do anything else but that just because it overwhelms me so. After all summer kind of letting the clutter collect because of the garden, and now all the clutter FROM the garden, it's become a monumental task that I'm just going to have to break into manageable segments in order to be able to tackle it. I sure wish I could have a cow and some chickens. But even if I had the room, which I don't, it's against the city code here.

I'm sorta shamed to say... I have THREE very neglected blogs... LOL! One is for gardening/cooking, one is for just thoughts on various topics, and one is a private one for family members who live far away. Seeing that you guys are all linking on your blogs makes me realize I need to do some work on MINE! After Christmas I'll clean up the gardening/cooking one and post a link for anyone who might want to see. :) Beth |

Ilene, I think it's cool how we all have our own blogging styles. Some are wordier, some are pic-intensive, some are regular, others are sporadic. The world, even the blogging world, would be pretty boring otherwise. (I don't even remember what in the world I intended to say up there but it sparked another thought and my mind jumped track. LOL) Glenda, I can use every last bit of cow help! I remember milking cows as a kid but not since then. We're complete cow newbies and will more than likely get in way over our heads. Story of our lives... It seems that how we do everything, just jump in with both feet, trial by fire, and all that. We just missed some great Brown Swiss gals from a friend of hubby's. We should have put the word out sooner so now we have to just have a bit of patience. In the meantime, I'm going to start reading the KAFC forum every day. Maybe I'll have a clue by the time we get one. We're new to dairy goats as well so are trying to learn as we go. We've had meat goats before but this is our first go-round with milkers. So much to learn! Diane

I signed up for a blog where I planned to put amusing stories, but some spyware/malware prevention program on my machine makes it pretty much impossible to get anything posted to it. Maybe it thinks blogs set toxic cookies, I dunno, but it's been more trouble than it's worth. Not even I think my stories are *that* amusing. I do have a long standing website (10+years now) that gets updated every once in a while, if y'all wanted to read that.

I think I have to add that sidebar thing before the feed email thing works. I will try that today. Littledog, you need to try the E Blog. You can post easily, in fact I have posted a few times before I was ready! I am doing this by trial and error (lots of errors) I just visited your website and copied three recipes. Loved it. Diane, you have given me an idea. I will do some posting about owning a milk cow. I am just amazed at some of the posts on KAFC. They start out so starry eyed and completely in the dark about the daily routine....I feel so sorry for some of them who really get in over their heads quickly.
RE: Who else has a blog?

Littledog, great site! I giggled my way through several pages. Holler if you ever find your blog mojo and I'll doohickey ya. Thanks, Glenda! I'm the anal, over-research and - think everything person and hubby's the impulsive, show up one day with a water buffalo or whatever & let the chips fall guy. We usually balance each other out pretty well but not always. LOL He did raise some beef calves as a teenager so I guess that's something, probably just enough knowledge to make really big mistakes. :-P Diane
RE: Who else has a blog?

Hey Diane! I clicked my little RSS feed dohickey button and subscribed to yours, Ilene's and Glenda's blogs... what happens now? LOL! ;) Beth
RE: Who else has a blog?

Beth, depends on your particular doohickey. My current one just delivers it straight to my email as soon as someone makes a post. My previous doohickey, bloglines, had a gadget in my sidebar that notified me that there were new entries. I assume still others are different? I'm a technodummy so, really, it's amazing that I can even make instant coffee in the microwave without blowing up the county.

Melissa, good stuff! We're homeschoolers, too. Love the lard post! We've raised & butchered hogs off & on for years and always wanted to try rendering lard. Diane
RE: Who else has a blog?
| | |
Melissa, cool snowflake instructions! And I put a comment on your homeschool entry. I haven't yet read all the entries, but I added your blog to my "blogs I like to visit" list on my blog. Blogspot doesn't always work right for me. It took forever to be able to access the ability to add a bloglist. Now I'm trying to get it to show blogs by label and the gadget dohickey isn't working again. I'll have to keep trying till things work right. I suppose I shouldn't complain since it's free and all, but it sure is frustrating when you know you should be able to do something easily and the thing they say you should click on to do it, just isn't there. Hopefully they'll get things worked out soon. --Ilene Gee whiz, now when I tried to post this I got an error message. I guess nothing is working right today.

Okay, now I'm considering starting one of these things. It looks like fun :-) Love reading through some of your posts...you can learn a lot about other people by reading what they post. Mandy

thanks guys -- I don't update near like I should -- I'm going to try and do better ; ) Diane - I really enjoy doing the lard.
