I'd really be interested about what is going on with the plant. I have a small Phal which has similar pitting. I have been unable to rid it for over 4 years. Keeps flowering but looks like hell!

Guys, as I understand it, the disease is introduced by insects in the same way that mosquitos introduce dengue etc. I always thought viral diseases were fatal, but that appears not to be the case, though they are obviously very disfiguring. Prevention is obviously the way to go, but as my orchids are in the open garden it's very difficult to keep an eye on everything and by the time I discovered these critturs (orchid beetles) it was too late. One thing I have decided is that it's definitely not a good a policy to keep everything crowded together in an enclosed space! I am now slowly giving up having a specific area for orchids and spreading them out as widely as I can elsewhere. -Ian.

I never saw a bug. I've had this plant for approx 5 years and it always flowers and sometimes keikis. I have sprayed it with everything made. I've tried systemics which I give every few months. Each time it makes a new leaf the leaf appears normal until it grows out and then becomes pitted. The flowers are always normal.

It has been packed with other orchids including Phals and none have gotten it. I don't know what it is. I should have trashed it years ago. It just annoys me that I can't beat the problem.

Maybe virus?
