The Australian Dendrobiums are kicking into gear in the northern hemisphere. This is my first one, lots of buds developing. Spring is around the corner.
Nick. Last Spring I traded you for a hilda poxon. And now there are new buds. And I'm excited and checking far too much. So help me with the anticipation by letting me know how long from my pic until it blooms? And how many flowers per spike? And how long does it stay in bloom. We have our show in early March and I'm wondering if they will be blooming then.
I have 3 canes. The 2 older canes have 2 buds each and 1 on the small cane for a total of 5. And the speciosum I traded from you is just a week or 2 behind the hilda Poxon with 3 buds...
I feel like a kid at christmas waiting for that morning to come...
I'm told that the amount of red is strictly a factor of how cold it got. If you are too nice to it you won't get much red. You have a lot of flowers per spike, more than I'm used to seeing on my plant. I guess they react differently to different conditions.
I got a 3 cane division of Hilda in May. I think it is remarkable that it has 5 blooming spikes now. Actually just 2 have opened so far. The other 3 are moving along.
It's a real blooming fool. Started blooming in July and has bloomed off and on. Hilii has buds. Dend speciosums have a reputation of needing to get big before they'll bloom.
You seem to do exceptionally well with the Australian Dendrobiums. As they begin to bloom I should make divisions for you if you have the space for them as they do get big.
