Combine your first and last name and add eanae and you have the name of a new genus. Good thing Ingelberg Humperdink does not breed orchids. I don't know if I could stomach an Ingelberghumperdinkeanae. Fred Clark did produce one of the blackest orchids know so I guess he is entitled to name it as he sees fit. Fdk stands for Fredclarkeanae. I don't know if my ego is big enough to do this if I ever produced a noteworthy cross but he seems happy with his work which is spectacular producing countless FCCs and other awards.
Mine is just called Fdk After Dark so I it's not a division of an awarded plant. It will just have to bloom in relative obscurity in my greenhouse, unsung and unpraised. That mother is black, the blackest orchid I have. Actually I do have Dracula Raven which is just as black. This one photographed well, Raven turned out brownish even though it looks just as black to the eye.
