Whitecat8 - Seven of us were escorted around to both cloudforest and lower montane forest habitats. At the end of the trip was the Quito Orchid Expo / Andean Orchid Conference. Sadly, only 15% of the original forested areas in Ecuador remain. Much of the country is pasture and farmland. When the forests are cut, the land begins to erode and dry out. Really tragic for orchids, since Ecuador is (was) one of the most orchid-rich in number of species.
