It's been a long, hard winter in Minnesota, and it's not over yet. This is why a lot of us northerners grow orchids- we can get that little whiff of the tropics and warm weather to keep from going stir crazy.

Sophronitis cernua growing in a pot of ivy in the kitchen window:

Dendrobium sulcatum - the flowers don't last more than a week or so, but they are so pretty that the plant is worth growing:

Dendrobium aberrans - a tiny plant, only about 2" high, with lots of long-lived 1/2" flowers

Lycaste cochleata - 2" flowers, with great morning fragrance:

Spring will be here soon, even here in the frozen north - we can make it!
