Disaster!

We don't often get strong winds here, but when we do you certainly know about it. Yesterday afternoon a number of hurricane force gusts completely destroyed our orchid growing area. 200+ plants scattered over a 10 yard radius, most of them separated from their pots and labels and nearly all the clay pots (about a third) broken. We now have to try and save as many as we can and look for an alternative location, but nowhere is completely safe against such a force of nature. I can't even replant them in the trees as a number were simply blown off the branches! There is some good news, however. The plants themselves suffered relatively little damage. They are obviously designed to withstand such a battering and we found several in spike that we had not noticed...Look in on the gallery in about a week's time. - Ian.
