I remember when I first started growing orchids about 20 years ago reading in a guide book that this was "an ideal beginner's orchid". Well this is probably my 4th plant and the first I have succeeded in keeping for more than a year and getting to reflower.Its chief drawback is that it needs much cooler growing conditions than the majority of other popular orchids and has to be grown separately. If your conditions are intermediate like mine, you can get round this by keeping it in full shade during the warmest parts of the year if necessary remove it from the greenhouse and put it in a back porch.Don't forget to water it though. It needs tons to fatten up those delightful spherical pseudobulbs. You make up for this by allowing it get some direct sun during the late fall and winter, when it generally flowers. Very little water during this latter period.
