Dendrobium speciosum

Here is a close-up of the D.speciosum I mentioned in my "Orchid Table" shot.It is probably the most famous of all the Australian orchids. Also known as King Rock Orchid and Sydney orchid, as it is found in the Blue Mts just inland from that city, it is one of the most difficult of the Dends on account of its very slow growth. It can (and mine did) take up to 10 years to reach flowering size. Its scent is like the color of its flowers, creamy. Likes some direct sun and cool winter temps but is also tolerant of heat and low humidity.

When I was a student - a very long time ago - I paid a short visit to Oz and we saw some of these (not in flower) on a walk. My Aussie host commented, "Ugly lil baggers, aren´t they?". Not in flower, yes.
