Hi Nick, looked for a thread to tack this on but the last one has receded into the distance. Dendrobium speciosum 'Goldilocks' x var. curvicaule 'Bee Creek'
Won prize for beauty and appeal at a local orchid society winter show. Grown mounted on what i Think was a plastic log. That is all one plant and all the leaves were unmarked. A poor late flowering speciosum year.
I have the cross. Bought it from Wayne Tourville (spelling) some time ago as a small seedling and it looks like it could bloom any spring. They do take a long time to reach blooming size. Now I know what the flowers will look like. Overall looks good but the individual flowers don't look that great. Can't see them that well, what's your opinion about the quality of the flowers?
Hi Nick, The flowers were not fully open when the Photo was taken. I think the flower quality was slightly better than average and the plant looked much better when the flowers were fully open after 4 days in the show display. You have better quality flowers but it still comes down to the habit and arrangement of the flowers on the raceme. At show end, Plant was sold to a guy for $150 as a surprise present for his wife and she was so happy!
The show schedule had a class just for speciosum and there were just three entries, sometimes mother nature doesn't co-operate.
