The magic hour struck and produced Vandas, and more Vandas.

We had our annual fall show and one of the vendors is a Thai Lady who always brings a load of Vanda. No different this time but I was ready to strike. Show closes at 4PM. I approached her at 3:45 (the magic hour) and asked her if she really wanted to schlepp all this stuff home. Bottom line is I got 5 nice vandaceous types from her for half price. 3 were sample plants to demonstrate the bloom to the costumers.

I will show them here and only take credit for the fact that they have been under my expert care for 48 hours now and have yet to commit suicide. If they make it through the rest of this week, they should be OK for the long haul.

The first one is Vanda Manuvadee 'Sky' AM/AOS (V Ponpimed x coerulea).

Another view, I like this one better than the Manuvadee even though that one is awarded. Maybe it's beginning to fade. The Manuvadee that is. I got a couple of others, but not in bloom.

I love that closing time bargain basement time. As long as you resist buying left over garbage and stick to plants you have been eying all weekend, it gives a good feeling to walkout with a shopping bag full of goodies for not too many sheckles. And of course all of these plants I desperately need as I don't have enough orchids. Where does it all end?

Beautiful! Wish I could grow these babies - then again, I certainly don't have the room, even if I could maintain the temp through the winter.

I always hit the vendors during the last half hour, sometimes I notice some beginning to pack up and make a run for it. I refuse to pay full price at a show. However, there have been many times I missed out on plants I wanted as they sold quickly.

Beautiful Vandas. I especially love that orange. Absolutely striking.
