Over the next few weeks I'll try and show some pictures of some of the fabulous plants that were at the Brazilian National Orchid Exhibition, which this year was held in my home town. I'll start with one that is justly popular and appears at almost every show. It's not native to this area, however, being from the Amazon region and other very warm, humid areas of northern Brazil and Paraguay. It seems to be adaptable to cooler conditions, however. There's a lot of argument about its scent. Some say it has quite a strong perfume, others ( incl.me ) can hardly detect it. There could be a variety of explanations for this (time of day, weather, different noses, natural variation in the species etc)
