Bulb. medusae

This plant is vigorous and pretty easy to grow. First time I've successfully flowered a Bulbophyllum (or Cirropetalum). My echinolabium flowered but the flower was ugly (it's in spike now). Although it's (medusae) scent is quite odd it's not unique to this plant. The scent is strongest in the morning and undetectable (to me at least) at night. I wouldn't consider it a fragrance. It's in a teak basket with hapu'u tree fern fiber (my new favorite media and container). Bulbophyllums seem to have the oddest smells. My graveolens is also in flower (it bloomed right after medusae) and it has the smell of a poorly maintained barn or petting zoo, echinolabium smells like a not-so-clean fish market.

Mahalo,

Matt
