Oh, oh - just had a thought.

I bet the flowers are pollinated by ducks right? A duck comes sauntering by, sees the flower, gets those heart-shaped things in its eyes, waddles over and starting making duck moves of luv. One thing leads to another and 9 months later a bunch of new duck orchids are born. How very clever.

OK, it's Sunday morning, I've been up since 3:30. Must make more coffee now.............

Still a very cool flower. Thanks for posting.

Arthur, that's amazing. Y'all have cool native orchids. All ours I've seen either are boring (to me) or are slippers.

Kevin - plant/bird mating? 9 months till birth? 2 more pots of coffee for you, guy. :)

Keep'em coming, Arthur.

Do not know if i should. After all this is a North American Board. Lol.

Flowers are small, just over 1cm across and male Saw Flies think they are lady Saw Flies and try to do unmentionable things to them. I cannot go into more detail than that.

Actually, I have looked for Native Orchids over there and in the UK and saw Nil. But you do need to have a bit of local knowledge to find orchids growing in the wild.
