I just read this post in the Florida Gardening Forum.

I use a full spectrum micro-encapsulated fertilizer (slow release) in a 70/30 ratio with Ironite. I fertilize my palms very heavily, and they grow quickly and look good. My father is a member of the palm society and he has HUGE palm trees (according to the members when they visit), and has only lived in his house for 12 years. He has a Livistona decipiens and Livistona mariae that are each 25-30' tall (and 10 years old) with thick trunks. His secret? 800 lbs. of fertilizer 2X's a year (1/3 of an acre). He lives near Melbourne Beach, and has very sandy soil. I'm a believer.

800lbs 2x a year on 1/3acre. I hope its a typo.

I know this is not the correct forum for this, but Im sure most of you can relate.
