When I purchase the house 2 years ago in Northern IL, the grass was pretty green. Last year, there was some sort of drought and the grass started thinning, then what appeared to be grubs killing off sections of the grass (neighbor had the same issue).

Last fall, I top dressed with compost and tried to overseed, but unfortunately I wasn't too successful. I probably did not water enough.

Two weeks ago, I put down some corn gluten. A week later, it rain heavily and have been raining pretty constantly ever since. I was thinking about overseeding now, but reading various books, it appears that overseeding in spring isn't that good of an idea in the North.

I am hoping that the grass will recover and filled out the thin spots. I have dig out some soil for a soil test. I am waiting for it to dry before sending it to the lab.

Anything else I should be doing?
