Flying Insects on Lawn

I want to treat my lawns with organic materials, is there anything to get rid of some small flying insects? When I walk across or mow the lawm they fly all over. It makes to lawn unusable for anything except looking at. I am trying to keep it and my garden all organic.

Try to describe the insect so that we could have a stab at identification. And are they flying as in fluttering or as in jumping? About what size would you guess?

I would say they are knats(sp?) They are tiny, low flying creatures. They more or less flutter and stay in the lawn mostly until walked on or mowed.
