Am I mowing to long? Grass blades have seed

Hello All,

Overseeded last fall and fall 2005 with KBG/Rye mix. Switch to organic last summer with Soybean and CGM this Spring. Mow high, water infrequent, mulch mow. This year, I have 2 things going on. 1.) I have a lot of grass wher the blades are bearing seed. Is that the KBG? Is it good or bad? I mulch mow, so hopefull its good. 2.) In reading this forum, I think its too early for crab grass, but I have thick blade, thick stem grass coming up in various places? What is it and how do I treat?

I believe the same thing is happening to me. I'm thinking it is Annual Rye, but I'm not sure. I live North of Boston. I too switched to organic mid summer last year.

Does anyone know what I can do if it is Annual Rye?

I'm no expert, but since no one else has answered...

I have Kentucky Bluegrass, and have had it for about 5 years. Every year in the spring, it goes to seed. If I'm remebering correctly, it tends to do it in the fall as well. It's natural for bluegrass. It seems to happen almost no matter what height you mow to, unless you really chop it short (1 in. or so). I have neighboors that cut theirs at 2 inches and they get seed in the spring. It stays for a few weeks, then it's gone.

I'd personally be worried if by KBG didn't go to seed one year.
