Thatch in front, but not back?

Hi All - been absent from the forums for a LONG time...got an issue I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.

As the subject says, I've got a continual thatch problem in the front yard, slight problem in the side yards, but the back yard has pretty much no thatch problem at all.

The front yard has to get raked with a dethatching rake every year. The backyard is on the northwest side of the house and gets more sun than the front. It also is typically 'wetter' (read as does not drain well).

The entire yard typically gets 1-2 doses of a chemical fertilizer per year - a weed & feed in spring (if needed, for weeds) and a winterizer around november. Other than that, it's soybean meal, 1-2 applications per year (as needed).

Anyone have any ideas as to why the front gets real thick thatch and the back doesn't? Anything I can do to the front to keep it from happening? I've done the compost tea thing, and it helps, but that alone is not enough.

Thanks!

Joe
