you can easily level with 1/4"-1/3" organic compost in the spring and fall growing seasons. Some people use sand, but I prefer compost. May take several of the thin applications to finish it out.

I would try leveling from the top before tearing up a lawn. You can apply 1/4" of soil or sand every 1-2 weeks during growing season. Your Bermuda will adjust to the new level between applications.

Native soil and/or sand are usually better for leveling than compost. A very large percentage of good compost will decompose leaving you back where you started.

i have thought about adding soil/sand slowly to the lawn to level it out. my concern with this method are for the areas where the lawn meets up with concrete areas(driveway and sidewalk). in some locations, the soil level is higher than the concrete, while in others, the level is actually below the concrete.

i think(and i could be wrong) that if the job is done properly the first time around, what happens is that the level the dirt along with your concrete, and then the sod is laid down, and therefore the grass is raised up higher than the sidewalk, etc.

soo... in the sections where the soil level is below the concrete, the best i could hope for is to be level with the concrete, because if i go higher than that, the top soil or sand that i use is just going to spill over. maybe i am just trying to be too perfect with it, but esentially, when i would be finished, my leveled lawn would really be level. any suggestions?
