While doing a search, I happened upon a thread about quackgrass, where OP made several posts about his method of controlling it. I didn't read much of it, intending to go back to it when I had time later. I remember you responded by thanking him for his experiment, but I didn't read enough of the thread to identify it any better than I'm able right now. I do remember he didn't use any herbicide.
